For about five minutes, it looked like Oda had finally given us a fresh number to argue about. A claim started travelling around social media that One Piece had “at least four more years” left, supposedly confirmed by Eiichiro Oda during One Piece Day 2026. ScreenRant then published an article titled “One Piece May Have Just Set a New Grand Finale Deadline,” presenting the rumor as the latest update from the creator.
There is just one tiny problem: Oda never appears to have said it. There is no official quote, video, transcript or message from Oda attached to the claim. The official One Piece website covered One Piece Day, which took place on August 22 and 23, but it did not publish any four-year ending estimate. Neither did Shueisha nor the verified One Piece channels. For an announcement this large, that silence is fairly loud.
So, how did it get everywhere?
The rumor had everything the internet likes: Oda, an ending date and a number that sounds believable. It moved from one post to another, then into aggregation articles, then back onto X, Instagram and Facebook carrying the authority of those articles. Somewhere along the way, “people are saying” became “Oda confirmed.” Most versions linked to another headline instead of an actual Oda statement, which is usually the part where the alarm should start ringing.
Could One Piece continue until 2030? Of course. We literally built a clock around that possibility because it is plausible, funny and gives everyone enough time to reread Skypiea. But plausible is not the same thing as sourced. Upcoming anime or movie projects also cannot prove when the manga will end; the franchise can continue producing things before, during and long after the final chapter.
Until an estimate appears in an Oda message, a published interview, Weekly Shonen Jump or an official One Piece channel, the four-more-years announcement remains fake. The clock can stay where it is for now, but it is staying there as a joke and an extrapolation—not because Oda secretly handed ScreenRant the final deadline.
